In 1980, after 20 years in the insurance industry, Ken Gearhart made the decision to go into business for himself. For the next 20 years the agency he founded would be known as Kenneth E. Gearhart, CLU and Associates.

Robert Norris joined the agency in 1989 and later in the year the office was moved to its current location at 1700 North New Era Road in Carbondale, Illinois. Terrence Mohr came on board in 1990. In January 2000 the name of the business was changed to Gearhart and Associates, Ltd. On January 1, 2001 Ken announced his retirement and the ownership of the agency was transferred to Terry and Bob.

From the beginning, meeting client's needs by providing experienced risk management consultation, quality insurance products, and superior customer service has always been the goal of the Gearhart agency.

Over the years Gearhart and Associates, Ltd. has become a leading independent agency providing church financial services to church boards, clergy, staff, and membership.
